# Resizing Images

Change the aspect ratio of your images and let AI naturally fill the expanded areas

## Resize Your Images to Any Aspect Ratio

Need your image in a different format? The Resize feature lets you change the aspect ratio of any image — whether you're converting a portrait shot to a landscape banner or adapting content for different social media platforms. AI automatically fills the expanded areas to seamlessly extend your image.

\> **Note:** If you want to change the aspect ratio or extend the canvas of an image, always use **Resize** — not Magic Edit. Magic Edit is designed for modifying existing content within an image, not for changing its dimensions.

### How to Use Resize

1. **Open an image** from your gallery — the image viewer will appear

2. **Click Resize** in the toolbar at the top

3. **Choose an aspect ratio** from the dropdown (top left) or drag the canvas handles to set a custom ratio

4. **Position your image** on the canvas — drag, scale, or rotate it to get the framing you want

5. **Select a resolution**: 1K, 2K, or 4K

6. **Optionally add a prompt** to describe what should appear in the expanded areas

7. **Click Resize** to generate your new image

The AI fills any expanded areas naturally, blending seamlessly with your original image. You don't need to add a prompt — but if you want something specific in the new areas, just describe it in the prompt field.

### Available Aspect Ratios

Choose from 10 predefined formats:

You can also drag the canvas handles to set a custom aspect ratio — the canvas snaps to the nearest supported ratio as you drag.

### Canvas Controls

- **Drag the canvas handles** (corners and edges) to adjust the output aspect ratio

- **Move your image** by dragging it to any position on the canvas

- **Scale your image** larger or smaller using the corner handles on the image

- **Rotate your image** to adjust the angle

- **Zoom in/out** using the magnifying glass icons in the top toolbar

- **Reset position** by clicking the reset icon to start over with your placement

### Resolution & Credit Cost

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Resolution</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Credits</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>1K</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>5 credits</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>2K</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>10 credits</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>4K</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>20 credits</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

Higher resolutions produce sharper results and are recommended for print or large-format use.

### Common Use Cases

- **Social media adaptation**: Resize a single image for Instagram (1:1), Stories (9:16), and LinkedIn (16:9)

- **Banner creation**: Expand a portrait photo into a wide panorama (21:9) for website headers

- **Print preparation**: Convert digital images to standard print ratios like 3:2 or 2:3

- **Platform-specific content**: Quickly create Pinterest pins (3:4), YouTube thumbnails (16:9), or TikTok content (9:16) from one source image

### Tips for Great Results

1. **Position your subject carefully**: Place the main subject where you want it in the final image — the AI will fill around it

2. **Use prompts for specific backgrounds**: If you need a particular scene in the expanded area, describe it in the prompt field

3. **Start with 1K**: Preview your result at 1K resolution first, then regenerate at higher resolution once you're happy with the composition

4. **Try different placements**: Move your image to different positions on the canvas to see what works best — use the reset button to start fresh
