Upscaling uses AI to increase your image resolution while maintaining—and often enhancing—quality and details. You can choose between Crystal or SeedVR for quick, faithful results, or one of the Magnific models for advanced control over the enhancement process. Crystal, the default model, reaches all the way up to 38K (1.5 gigapixels) — roughly 38,000 pixels on the long side.
Select an image from your gallery
Click Upscale in the editing toolbar
Choose your upscale model — Crystal, SeedVR, Magnific Creative, or Magnific Precision
Pick your target resolution — each option shows a class label like 12K or 38K. With Crystal selected, hover over (or tap) an option to preview its predicted output size (width × height), megapixels, and exact credit cost before you start
Adjust settings (optional — Magnific models offer additional controls)
Click Generate to start upscaling
Good to know: With Crystal, the resolutions you can pick depend on your source image — options whose output would exceed 1.5 gigapixels are hidden. If the image's pixel dimensions aren't known yet, the hover preview shows just the resolution and credit cost (without the width × height or megapixels).
Choose your target resolution. The options actually shown depend on the model you pick:

Magnific Creative supports upscaling up to 4K. SeedVR goes up to 12K. Magnific Precision reaches up to 16K. Crystal goes all the way up to 38K (1.5 gigapixels) — the options actually available depend on your source image, since outputs can't exceed 1.5 gigapixels.
Samsa offers four upscale models. Select your model before upscaling — settings for Magnific models appear in an expandable panel, and each control has a tooltip explaining what it does.
The default upscale models. Fast and faithful — they increase resolution while keeping your image looking exactly as it is. No extra settings needed. Crystal is recommended for most use cases, while SeedVR can produce slightly more creative results.
Maximum target resolution: Crystal up to 38K (1.5 gigapixels); SeedVR up to 12K.
When you pick Crystal, hover over any resolution option to see its predicted output size, megapixels, and exact credit cost before you start.
AI-enhanced creative upscaling that does more than just increase image size — it also improves quality and adds detail. Magnific Creative can introduce and infer new details, textures, and visual elements, guided by an optional text prompt. You control how much creative freedom the AI gets, with stylization options to match your aesthetics and fine-tuned controls to balance fidelity vs. creativity.
Maximum target resolution: 4K. If you need to go higher, use Magnific Precision (up to 16K) or Crystal (up to 38K) instead.
Settings you can adjust:
Setting | Range | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
Prompt | Free text | Empty | Guide what kind of details the AI adds. Tip: reuse the same prompt you used to generate the image for best results |
Creativity | -10 to 10 | 0 | How much new detail the AI invents. Higher = more creative and artistic, lower = more conservative |
HDR | -10 to 10 | 0 | Level of definition and dynamic range. Higher = more vivid detail and richer contrast |
Resemblance | -10 to 10 | 0 | How closely the result matches your original. Higher = stays closer to the original, lower = more freedom to reinterpret |
Fractality | -10 to 10 | 0 | Strength of prompt influence and detail intricacy per pixel. Higher = more intricate prompt-driven detail |
Optimized for | Dropdown | Standard | Optimizes the upscale for your image type: Standard, Soft Portraits, Hard Portraits, Art & Illustration, Videogame Assets, Nature & Landscapes, Films & Photography, 3D Renders, or Science Fiction & Horror |
Engine | Dropdown | Automatic | Selects the underlying AI engine: Automatic, Illusio, Sharpy, or Sparkle |
Best for: Concept art, marketing creatives, illustrations, portraits, landscapes, architectural renderings, food photography, graphic design — any time you want the AI to enrich your images with extra detail, sharper lines, or more vivid colors.
The opposite approach — Magnific Precision enlarges your image without inventing anything new. It enhances resolution while intelligently improving sharpness, texture, and fine detail. Text, logos, UI elements, and fine details stay exactly as they are, just sharper and bigger. It also supports specialized processing modes for different image types — from illustrations to noisy photos.
Maximum target resolution: 16K. Supported scale factors: 2x through 16x (all integer values).
Settings you can adjust:
Setting | Range | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
Sharpen | 0–100 | 7 | Controls edge definition and clarity. Higher = sharper edges |
Smart Grain | 0–100 | 7 | Preserves natural film grain texture and prevents artificial smoothness. Higher = more natural texture, avoids the "plastic AI look" |
Ultra Detail | 0–100 | 30 | Controls fine detail enhancement — textures, patterns, micro-details. Higher = more intricate detail |
Flavor | Dropdown | — | Optional optimization: Sublime (best for illustrations and art with smooth gradients), Photo (best for photographs with realistic detail), or Photo Denoiser (best for noisy or low-light photos with noise reduction) |
Best for: Product photos, e-commerce, photography, print production, real estate, photo restoration, archival scans — any time you need pixel-perfect accuracy and fidelity to the original.
You can also skip upscaling entirely and generate images directly in 2K or 4K resolution from the image generation settings.
Crystal — Quick, faithful upscale when you're happy with the image as-is and just need it bigger — up to 38K (1.5 gigapixels), making it the go-to for very large outputs
SeedVR — Same fast, faithful approach as Crystal with slightly more creative results (up to 12K)
Magnific Creative — When you want the AI to add artistic detail, enhance textures, or reimagine parts of the image (up to 4K)
Magnific Precision — When you need a pixel-perfect enlargement that preserves text, logos, and fine details exactly as they are (up to 16K)
Upscaling costs depend on your target resolution and the model you choose. Magnific models cost 3x the standard rate.
Standard Upscale (Crystal / SeedVR — up to 12K):
Resolution | Cost |
|---|---|
2K | 5 credits |
4K | 10 credits |
6K | 20 credits |
8K | 25 credits |
10K | 35 credits |
12K | 45 credits |
These rates apply to both Crystal and SeedVR up to 12K.
Crystal above 12K (up to 38K / 1.5 gigapixels):
Above 12K, Crystal is priced by the actual size of the output: 0.6 credits per megapixel, rounded up to the nearest 5 credits. Because the exact pixel count depends on your image's proportions, two images upscaled to the same class (say, 16K) can cost slightly different amounts. The exact credit cost for every option is shown in the Upscale tab when you hover over it, so you always see the price before you start.
Approximate costs for typical images:
Target | Approx. output | Approx. cost |
|---|---|---|
16K | ~133 megapixels | ~80 credits |
20K | ~220 megapixels | ~135 credits |
24K | ~300 megapixels | ~180 credits |
38K (maximum) | up to 1,500 megapixels | up to 900 credits |
14K, 28K, and 32K are priced the same way — by output megapixels. Hover any option to see its exact cost.
Magnific Creative (up to 4K) — 3x standard:
Resolution | Cost |
|---|---|
2K | 15 credits |
4K | 30 credits |
Magnific Precision (up to 16K) — 3x standard:
Resolution | Cost |
|---|---|
2K | 15 credits |
4K | 30 credits |
6K | 60 credits |
8K | 75 credits |
10K | 105 credits |
12K | 135 credits |
14K | 180 credits |
16K | 240 credits |
